Your home is by far the most valuable thing that you own. Without cover, you risk having to pay for replacements or repairs if something happens to your home or belongings.
Buildings insurance protects you against the cost of repairing or rebuilding your home if it’s damaged or destroyed. It covers the structure of your home (the roof, walls and windows). It also covers any permanent fixtures and fittings, such as fitted kitchen units and bathroom suites.
Contents insurance covers the cost of replacing or repairing possessions if they’re damaged, destroyed or stolen while they’re inside your home. Contents are things you’d take with you if you moved home. Including your furniture, kitchen appliances, curtains, bedding, clothing, television, computing equipment and jewellery.
Home insurance isn’t a legal requirement, however most mortgage lenders will require buildings insurance to be in place before exchanging contracts.
